HOW TO DROP OFF YOUR DOG FOR THEIR GROOMING APPOINTMENT

You love your dog, and so do we. To keep their visit with us as safe and stress-free as possible, please follow the below guidelines when visiting our shop.

Before you arrive at the shop

Work with a trainer to help teach your dog cooperative care

○ Embracing cooperative care and getting your dog comfortable with being handled makes a HUGE difference in their grooming experience. We want your dog to love the groomer, and that starts with the work you put in at home.

Take your dog for a nice long walk to drain their energy, give them a chance to potty, and get them feeling good.

○ Draining their energy prior to their visit will help to get their wiggles out and can help them be more relaxed while in our care.

Avoid amping your dog up by saying things like "Do you want to go get a bath?!"

○ Keeping them as calm as possible before entering the shop will help prevent over-excitement and anxiety when they arrive.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT THE SHOP

Walk your dog into the shop on a leash - do not carry them into the store.

○ By leading your dog into the shop and having them walk themselves, it can help facilitate a sense of consent. If your dog feels like they are choosing to be here (because they walked in on their own), it can help make their experience less scary.

Remove any harnesses or other accessories before handing your dog off to a staff member.

○ Many dogs are notorious for escaping from harnesses, and some struggle with the act of taking them on and off. To simplify our handoff process and prevent your dog from Houdining out of anything, please ensure that your dog has a leash and flat collar on, and leave all harnesses and extra accessories behind. Our staff will place a slip leash on your dog at handoff, which gives us greater control and minimizes the risk of any dogs getting free.

Avoid baby-talking or coddling your dog while waiting for them to be brought back.

○ Though it's natural to want to comfort your dog when they are nervous, petting and baby-talking to them when they are feeling that way can potentially reinforce anxious and unwanted behaviors.

If there is a wait, please be patient.

○ If your dog is reactive or highly nervous, feel free to step outside while you wait. Dogs are very in tune with our energy, so staying calm and getting space if you need to can help make their experience less stressful.

Have your dog on the ground when handing them off to a staff member.

○ The safest place for your dog is on the ground. This will prevent bites, scratches, or other injuries that can occur from your dog potentially jumping out of someone's arms.

WHEN YOU PICK YOUR DOG UP FROM THEIR APPOINTMENT

WAIT UNTIL WE CALL YOU TO COME INSIDE.

○ WHEN A DOG IS ON THE TABLE AND SEES THEIR OWNER, THEY CAN GET OVEREXCITED. THIS MAY CAUSE ACCIDENTS AND OUR PRIORITY IS YOUR DOG’S SAFETY.

Keep your excitement levels to a minimum when you see them.

○ Though we love a good reunion, adding more excitement to an already exciting situation can be disruptive to the other dogs and staff who are working in the shop. It's important that we do our best to keep all dogs as calm as possible, both during and after their appointments.
